Side Wound Hand Embroidered Velvet Brooch

A hand-embroidered brooch inspired by one of the my favourite symbols in Christian art: the side wound of Christ.

Throughout medieval devotional imagery, Christ’s wound was often used as a symbol of sacrifice and divine love. This piece draws on that tradition as a wearable textile relic.

Hand stitched using embroidery, beads and metallic thread, the design is framed by goldwork-inspired details and finished with a border of pearl and gold beads. The brooch is mounted on a velvet backing with a secure pin fastening, making it suitable for coats, jackets, bags or display as part of a collection.

Designed and sewn entirely by hand, this is a one-of-a-kind piece created by me in my home in Leicestershire.
