In Safekeeping Embroidered Heart Wall Hanging

This piece has been collected and now forms part of the Girdle of Venus Archive.

The Silver Chains of Love wall hanging is a hand-embroidered textile object inspired by Victorian love locks - sentimental devices used to guard hair, letters, diaries and affection.

Worked onto re velvet, the heart is built through dense beadwork and embroidery, finished with a silver-toned chain and key. The locked heart and its key sit together, forming an object about devotion, possession and keeping. 

Historically, locks were intimate tools: small, personal and full of meaning. This piece draws on that tradition, translating it into something to hang and keep close.

Each piece is entirely handmade by me and exists as a one-of-one work.
